CBI charges new case against 25 in West Bengal post-poll violence

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced on Friday that it has filed a fresh case against 25 people in connection with the West Bengal post-election violence. According to a CBI official, the agency filed the case after the Calcutta High Court issued an order.

The suspects, who were said to be armed, attacked a man's home in Jatra village in Birbhum district. They were said to have vandalised the property and viciously thrashed the house's owner, as well as attempting to sexually abuse his wife. In order to save her honour, the woman set herself on fire.

According to reports, the local police did not even file a report. The victim and his family are said to have fled the area and sought refuge at a relative's home. In West Bengal, the Central Bureau of Investigation has so far lodged 49 charges related to post-election violence.
