The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has intensified its crackdown on 'dummy' admissions by withdrawing the affiliation of 21 schools and downgrading six others from senior secondary to secondary level. This decision follows a surprise inspection of schools in Rajasthan and Delhi in September, which uncovered several irregularities.
CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta emphasized that 'dummy' admissions, where students do not attend classes, go against the fundamental purpose of education and hinder students' growth. "The practice of dummy or non-attending admissions contradicts the core mission of school education, compromising students' foundational growth. To address this issue, we are taking a decisive action to combat the proliferation of dummy schools and send a clear message to all affiliated institutions to resist the lure of accepting dummy or non-attending admissions," he said.
The inspections revealed multiple violations, and the findings were documented in reports sent to the respective schools. The replies provided by the schools were thoroughly reviewed by the CBSE. After careful evaluation, the affiliation of 21 schools was revoked, and six schools were demoted from senior secondary to secondary level.
Out of the 21 schools affected, 16 are located in Delhi, and five are based in Rajasthan's prominent coaching hubs, Kota and Sikar.
