Government worried about decrease in GST collection, took this step

New Delhi: The central government is worried about the GST collection being lower than expected. The government has constituted a high-level committee to deal with this. This committee has been tasked to increase the collection of GST, bring more and more businesses under GST and suggest measures to prevent tax evasion. In addition, this committee will suggest structural changes in GST. Apart from GST commissioners of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Punjab, Principal GST Commissioner and Joint Secretary (Revenue) have also been included in this committee.

Other states have also been requested to give their suggestions in this regard and join the committee. An official order states that policy measures and related changes are needed. As per the order, the committee will submit the first report to the GST Secretariat within 15 days. It will also be the responsibility of the committee to make suggestions on better analysis of data and better monitoring of compliance through administrative coordination.

In fact, the GST collection has come down to Rs 91,916 crore last month, which is a 19-month low. GST collection was also reduced in August. This further strengthened the slowdown in the economy and a decrease in customer demand. The government has been able to achieve GST revenue of more than one lakh crore rupees only once in the current financial year. Let us tell you that the central government still needs huge amount of funds so that it can revive the sluggish economy.
