New Delhi: The Central government is set to promote 8,089 officers, including providing reservations in promotions to members of scheduled castes (SCs) and scheduled tribes (STs). Officials familiar with the matter gave information in this regard on Friday. Out of the promotions, a total of 1,734 posts do not fall under reservation in promotions, while 5,032 posts are unreserved. The government has decided to make 727 promotions in the SC category and 207 in the ST category. Details for 389 posts have not been uncovered. Many of these regular promotions were pending for more than six years. The authorities were constantly demanding it. The reservation in promotion is applicable up to the post of Under Secretary in the Government. The Department of Personnel and Training issued several orders in this regard on Thursday. An official told the media on condition of anonymity, "Many orders have already been issued, while others are in the process.'' Around 4,734 officers are going to get regular promotions in the Central Secretariat Service (CSS). These include more than 1,757 officers. More than 1,472 section officers are being promoted to the post of under-secretary, which has been pending since 2015. 327 officers at the rank of deputy secretary and 1,097 at the director level will get promotions.
