Chandigarh: In a setback to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which broke ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the central government has withdrawn the Z-category security of Akali Dal veteran Bikram Singh Majithiya. Following a letter sent from the Center, the Amarinder government of Punjab has now decided to review the security of Majithiya to decide what kind of protection he should be provided. Meanwhile, the SAD has called the central government's decision an act of political rivalry. Majithiya was given Z category protection from the Central government on the escalation of the Akali-BJP coalition government in Punjab. The Akali-BJP government had demanded Z-category security as Majithiya received constant threats from gangsters and chaotic elements hidden abroad. Under this protection, he was provided with 30-40 CISF personnel and two escort vehicles. All this security has been withdrawn after the new order of the Center. Now Majithiya's security is only under the Punjab Police. In July 2018, 11 soldiers were withdrawn from Majithiya's security while reviewing the security of political leaders and other big personalities of the state. The State government has directed the DGP to review the safety of Majithiya after a fresh letter from the Center. Also Read- Will lockdown to be re-imposed in Madhya Pradesh again?
