Corona: Central government approves this relief package for states

The central government has approved the emergency response and health system preparedness package. The government has taken this decision in view of the growing cases of coronavirus in the country. The purpose of this package is to support the purchase of essential medical equipment and medicines and to strengthen surveillance activities. It also aims to promote the health system of the state. In a letter to the Additional Secretary, Principal Secretary and Commissioner (Health) of all states and union territories, the Health Ministry said that the 100% centrally funded package will be implemented in three phases from January 2020 to March 2024.

The letter stated in the matter that strengthening national and state health systems to support prevention and preparedness, procurement of essential medical equipment, consumables and medicines, with the objectives of emergency coronavirus (COVID-19) response. Strengthen monitoring activities, including the establishment of laboratories and bio-security preparations. According to the letter, the Union Health Ministry is releasing funds to the states and union territories under the National Health Mission for the implementation of Phase I by June 2020.

Support to the States and Union Territories for the development of dedicated COVID-19 hospitals in the major activities to be implemented under the first phase, strengthening ICU, laboratories with supply of ventilator oxygen in hospitals. Additional resources for human resources and incentives for human resources are included and by the deployment of community health volunteers. It also includes strengthening identifiable laboratories and expanding diagnostic capability and mobility support for sample transport.
