Centre optimist on national status for Upper Bhadra project: CM Bommai

NEW DELHI: The Union government has expressed interest in making a final decision on calling the Upper Bhadra project a national project at a meeting scheduled for December 6, according to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Bommai, speaking to reporters after meeting with several Union ministers here, said: "I have written to Union Water Resources Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, requesting that the Krishna Tribunal-2 award for the Upper Krishna Project be made public, as the Tribunal award is regarded as a Supreme Court decree. The directives for its implementation must be issued by the Centre." Shekhawat was also asked by the Chief Minister not to prepare the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Godavari, Cauvery, Krishna, and Mahanadi river link project until Karnataka's submission on the project and water share allocation was considered.

Bommai also discussed Covid treatment and measures against its new form, Omicron, in depth with Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
