Centre's agri laws aimed at benefiting the rich: Digvijaya Singh

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh alleged that the new agriculture laws were introduced by the Centre with an objective to provide benefits to ''big persons''.

Digvijaya Singh made the statement while leading a protest in support of the ongoing Bharat Bandh here in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday. He led the demonstration of Congress workers at Sanyogitaganj Anaj Mandi where slogans were raised against the Narendra Modi government.

The protesters demanded the rollback of three agri laws. ''After introducing demonetization and GST, the Modi government, in order to benefit big persons, has brought these black laws in the agriculture sector. Besides farmers, laborers working in mandis have hit the roads in protest,'' Singh said.

Demanding the repeal of the laws, the Rajya Sabha MP said it was a fight between the rich and the poor. He appealed to the PM to set up a joint Parliamentary committee to resolve the problems of farmers and for holding discussions with the farmers' bodies to frame a law that is in their interest.
