Chandigarh: A fast track court in Chandigarh has sentenced a girls' hostel warden to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in a sports academy. In the case, the victim's father had told that on August 8, 2018, his daughter had called him. On the phone, his daughter said that the hostel warden took her to a room, and recorded a video touching her inappropriately. The next day when the father came to meet his daughter, he told that the warden had again taken her to a room, and touched her private part. Based on the complaint, the women's hostel warden was arrested and a case was registered under sections 6 and 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act at Sector 19 police station. During sentencing, the accused woman pleaded for leniency as she had no previous criminal record and had to take care of her bedridden mother-in-law. However, the court said that this case is a fitting example of the degradation of the values of our respected, prosperous and traditional society. In which the accused, being a hostel warden, is convicted of sexually assaulting a minor victim girl. She has not only committed a heinous crime against the minor victim but has also broken the trust that the minor's parents. The court said that the convict will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 12 years and a fine of Rs 30,000. In case of non-payment of the fine, he will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for six months. The court said that this case shows how the values of our society are decreasing. The woman has not only sexually assaulted a minor but has also broken the trust of the victim's parents on her as a warden.
