The Char Dham Yatra is one of India's most revered pilgrimages, where devotees visit the four holy shrines of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Traditionally, the yatra is undertaken in a clockwise direction, beginning with Yamunotri, followed by Gangotri, Kedarnath, and finally Badrinath.
Each of these temples holds deep spiritual significance: Yamunotri is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, Gangotri to Goddess Ganga, Kedarnath to Lord Shiva, and Badrinath to Lord Vishnu. Pilgrims from across the globe visit these sites, seeking divine blessings and spiritual peace.
Since these temples remain open only for six months each year, the closing dates for the 2024 Char Dham Yatra have now been announced.
Gangotri Temple Closing Date
The Gangotri temple will close for the winter on November 2, 2024, at 12:14 pm, coinciding with the Annakoot festival. The traditional closing ceremony will follow all customary rituals, said Suresh Semwal, Secretary of the Gangotri Temple Committee.
Yamunotri Temple Closing Date
Yamunotri, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, will close on November 3, 2024, during the Bhai Dooj festival. The exact time for the closure will be finalized on October 12, 2024, during Dussehra. Priest Rawal Ashish Uniyal confirmed that the temple will reopen after the winter season.
Kedarnath Temple Closing Date
Kedarnath, one of the most visited shrines in the Char Dham Yatra, will close on November 3, 2024, at 8:30 AM. This sacred temple, nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas, is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Badrinath Temple Closing Date
The Badrinath temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, will close on November 17, 2024, at 9:07 pm. The date and time were decided on Vijayadashami, based on Hindu traditions and celestial alignments.
Other Temple Closures
Several other important shrines in the region will also close for the winter. Rudranath will close on October 17, 2024, Tungnath on November 4, 2024, and Madhyamaheshwar on November 20, 2024.
