The film, based on the life of acid attack survivor Lakshmi Agarwal, is set to feature actor Deepika Padukone as Lakshmi in Chhapak and will be accompanied by her hero actor Vikrant Messi. Now it has been revealed why Deepika was chosen for the role.
The film's director, Meghna Gulzar, said that Deepika has always been in her mind for Chhapak. This is because she had also seen pictures of Lakshmi before the acid attack in which Lakshmi looks somewhat like Deepika. However, there was no existence of his real face after the attack. After makeup transformation in the film, Deepika felt very much like Lakshmi.
After Padmavat, Tamasha and Bajirao Mastani, Deepika wanted to do light projects, though when she filled in for Chhapak, Meghna was quite surprised. At the same time, Meghna went on to say that it takes you a lot of time to get out of your skin and immerse yourself completely in someone else's skin.

In the film, Deepika will be seen in a salwar suit and mehndi in her hands. On release, Chhapak will knock in theatres on January 10 next year.
