NEW DELHI: According to the Global Times, China is concerned about the business environment in India, where Indian officials are conducting 'irregular' tax audits. China has asked India to offer a level playing field for Chinese businesses that is fair, transparent, and non-discriminatory. The comment was made by Gao Feng, a spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce, during a routine press briefing in Beijing on Thursday. "China has contributed to India's economic development and produced a big number of local jobs," Gao added, "and we hope India can provide a fair, transparent, and nondiscriminatory environment for Chinese firms." On January 5, India's Finance Ministry released a statement alleging that Xiaomi's Indian subsidiary had engaged in "tax evasion" and asked that it pay a total of Rs 6.53 billion ($88 million) in taxes outstanding between April 2017 and June 2020.
