China to collaborate with BRICS to promote common development: Xi Jinping

BEIJING – Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that China is eager to work with all countries, including the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), to achieve global growth.

According to media reports, Xi Jinping made the statements in a congratulatory message to a virtual meeting attended by representatives from political parties, research tanks, and civil society organisations from BRICS and other developing countries on Thursday.

Given the fragile global economic recovery, widening development gaps, and serious challenges such as climate change and digital governance, Xi said the BRICS countries should stay true to the bloc's founding purposes and collaborate with other developing countries to meet challenges and create brighter futures.

Xi stated that China is willing to collaborate with all countries, including the BRICS, to expedite the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, push for the execution of the Global Development Initiative, and jointly construct a global development community.

He emphasised that BRICS and other developing country political parties think tanks, and civil society organisations must fulfil their responsibilities, enhance exchanges, and contribute wisdom and power to accomplish common global development and construct a community with a shared future for humanity.
