Chinese shares close lower Tuesday

Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.73 percent, at 3,567.44 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.27 percent lower at 14,223.35 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at nearly 1.06 trillion yuan (about 166.45 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.05 trillion yuan on the previous trading day. Shares related to COVID-19 testing and medicine led the gains, while those related to metaverse and digital currency led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.28 percent to close at 3,056.15 points Tuesday.
