The Hindu Mythology marks Prana as the source of life which keeps us alive. Ramayana suggests, Prince Rama once asked Rishi vasishta, "The mind is able to think only on account of prana, the life-force, and it has no existence in itself. Then, what is it in itself?" The Sage then explained to him our body is something that we feel, exists. Well, honestly, it does not. The existence of the body is an illusion. Every object in the world has been created by the divine power for a cause. Our mind is as real as anything we see in sleep, in dreams. That means the mind or the 'Chitta' is totally non-existent. The world has been created by Brahma, hence everything is a part of Brahma. Mind or the Chitta is something we have strongly assumed to be existent. Vashishta says that after Chitta, we started to believe in the concept of Prana. Prana is what gives us the power to experience things, analyse them and react to them. Hence we can also assume that Prana is what maintains our existence. According to Rishi Vashishta, Chitta is what created everything that we see, assume, experience. even Prana is what the Chitta believes in. The Chitta has assumed the concept of Prana, hence we believe in it. Therefore the Chitta and the Prana are like rider and vehicle.
