Lucknow:SIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants's scientists have detected that a compound called ‘L-Menthol’ derived from Mentha plant, whichn is commonly know as Mint or Pudina is useful as a anti-cancer drugs. Ajit Kumar Shasany (Senior principal scientist) said,"They have proved scientifically that L-Menthol can kill the colon cancer cell line without affecting the normal cell line" The research also calls that the production of L-menthol is cost-effective, non-destructive and easily available in comparison to anti-cancer compound used at present, derived from the bark of European Yew tree.However, Mint is avaiable in every part of the world. The study published curently international journal, ‘OMICS: A Journal of Integrative Biology’.
