Amritsar: A violent clash broke out between members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Jalalabad, Punjab's Fazilka district, on Saturday, leaving one person injured. The confrontation occurred during a meeting related to the upcoming panchayat elections, scheduled for October 15. The injured individual, reportedly an AAP member, sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and is in critical condition. AAP spokesperson Malwinder Singh Kang accused the Akali Dal of instigating the violence, stating that while ruling parties are often blamed for election violence, the SAD has a history of involvement in such incidents during panchayat polls. Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy, the AAP MLA from Jalalabad, was also present at the time of the incident. The altercation led to heightened tensions in the area, prompting senior police officers to intervene and assess the situation. The incident adds to the rising tensions as Punjab prepares for elections to 13,229 gram panchayats across the state.
