Cloudburst in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi, 3 people died, 4 went missing

UTTARKASHI: As many as three persons were reportedly killed while four others went missing after a cloudburst in Mando village in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand early Monday.  The deceased are said to be members of the same family.

According to reports, the deceased have been identified as Madhuri (42), Ritu (38) and Ishu(6). "Three people died and four people were reported as missing after a cloudburst in Mando village in Uttarkashi district," said inspector Jagdamba Prasad, team in-charge, State Disaster Response Force.

Amid heavy rainfall in many parts of Uttarakhand, many houses were submerged by water in some areas of the Mando village after the cloudburst, said the Disaster Response Force (SDRF). 

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the loss of lives in the incident and asked the Uttarkashi District Magistrate to carry out relief and rescue operations in the affected areas on priority.  Meanwhile, two labourers who got stranded in a tunnel of the Chibro hydel project in Vikasnagar area of Dehradun district on Sunday evening are still trapped there. Efforts are underway to rescue them,  Kalsi police station incharge Rituraj Singh said.
