Flood destruction in Karnataka continues, CM Yeddyurappa announces compensation

Bangalore: severe rains and floods have wreaked havoc In Karnataka. Hundreds of houses have been submerged in water and many have been devastated. In addition, many bridges connecting cities have also been broken. Meanwhile, CM BS Yeddyurappa of the province has said that compensation of Rs 5 lakh will be given to the victims. Yeddyurappa said 5 bridges and 300 houses have been destroyed in South Kannada district.

CM BS Yeddyurappa has also announced that an amount of Rs. Earlier, Yeddyurappa on Saturday urged the central government to provide Rs 3,000 crore for relief operations in 14 flood affected districts of the state in the north-west and coastal areas, which have been affected by heavy rains and storms since August 1.

Yeddyurappa said, "I have sought Rs 3,000 crore from the central government for relief operations. Heavy monsoon rains and floods have claimed 24 lives and damaged 14,000 houses in 14 districts of the state in the north-west, central and coastal areas.The Yeddyurappa government has damaged 14,000 houses in the last 24 days for rescue and relief operations in the flood affected districts. Rs 100 crore has been released.
