Cold wave in Delhi: Delhi was experiencing a cold wave, and residents of Palam and Safdarjung in Delhi awoke to an overcast sky. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in Palam was 7 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature in Safdarjung was 7.8 degrees Celsius (IMD).
For the upcoming few days, the Met Department also predicted cold day/severe cold day conditions in Delhi, isolated pockets of Uttarakhand, and portions of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and West Rajasthan.
According to the Met Department's warning, "Thick to extremely dense fog is very likely to continue over various areas of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, and West Rajasthan during the next 48 hours due to the prevailing light wind and heavy moisture in lower tropospheric levels." The wind chill factor is very high. The rate at which heat is lost from skin that is exposed to the air is measured by the wind chill factor.
During this time, visibility in the Palam region increased from 50 metres since 3:30 am to 100 metres at 07:30 am, and it is expected to continue to increase over the next two hours.
In the Ridge region, the temperature fell to 3 degrees Celsius on Monday, which is 4.9 degrees below average. The minimum temperature was recorded as 4 degrees Celsius at the Ridge weather station and 4.1 degrees Celsius at the Ayangar weather station, respectively. While the Palam observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 6.5 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of 12.5 degrees Celsius, the Safdarjung observatory reported a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius.
As soon as the minimum temperature reaches 4 degrees Celsius, the IMD announces a cold wave. When the minimum temperature falls to 10 degrees Celsius or lower than average, the Met Department also announces a cold wave. When the minimum temperature reaches two degrees Celsius or the deviation from the norm is greater than 6.4 degrees Celsius, a severe cold wave is declared.
