'Govt of India to evacuate Hindus/Sikhs from Afghan on special visa', letter from Congress leader

New Delhi: Congress party national spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill has written to the Union External Affairs Ministry demanding that Hindus and Sikhs be rescued in view of the ever-intensifying and disturbing violence in Afghanistan. He has also requested for provision of special visas for the same. Congress leader Jaiveer Shergill said he is personally writing the letter as a "responsible Indian citizen of the Sikh community".

He pointed out in the letter that after the withdrawal of US troops, the Taliban is fighting to take control of Afghanistan at gunpoint. Afghanistan is once again projected to fall into the clutches of terrorists. He pointed out the horrific incidents of recent violence in Afghanistan and said it is a crisis-causing problem for humanity.

Supreme Court counsel Jaiveer Shergill wrote in the letter, "As per the information received so far, 650 Sikhs and 50 Hindus are still trapped in Afghanistan. We know how the Taliban targets minorities belonging to India. Several incidents of attacks on Hindus and Sikhs have been reported recently. The Taliban had removed 'Nishan Sahib' from the Gurudwara in the Chamchani area of Pakistan.''
