Tharoor backtracked from his statement, is Gandhi family not supporting him?

Kochi: Congress Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor has backtracked from his statement in which he had expressed his desire to become the Chief Minister of Kerala. Now he has taken a U-turn with his statement, saying that he is not ready to take over the chief minister's chair, and will continue to do the work he has been doing for the last 14 years. Speaking to the media in Kannur, Shashi Tharoor said, 'I am not ready for the post of CM and there is nothing more to say in it. Earlier, Tharoor had expressed his desire to become CM and said that he was "ready for the CM post".'

Tharoor had said a few days ago, 'I am ready for the post, but this decision depends on the public. It is our responsibility to understand the underlying causes of the issues being faced by Kerala. The next assembly elections in the state are scheduled in 2026.' Congress MP Hibi Eden had said on Tharoor's statement that anyone can aspire to become CM, but for this, 'clearance from the high command' will have to be taken.

According to media reports, the Congress MP said, "It is for the party to decide who has to fight. An MP cannot decide this. The party has to decide if they are needed in state politics.'' Eden said the party is yet to decide who will be the chief ministerial face. He said that 'Tharoor can express his desire, but the party has not appointed him for this. Anyone can want it, whoever it is, they have to take clearance from the High Command.'

Let us inform you that, earlier Shashi Tharoor had also contested the election of the National President of the Congress, but he was badly defeated by Mallikarjun Kharge, the unannounced but official candidate of the Gandhi family. Even at that time, political pundits had said that Mallikarjun Kharge's victory could not have happened without the support of the Gandhi family. In fact, Shashi Tharoor had been advocating organizational change in Congress for some time, which the Congress high command was seeing as a rebellion. Now the Gandhi family could not make such a person the president, who would take decisions without their gesture. So Kharge was supported from behind the scenes. Now, something similar is happening with regard to Tharoor being made the chief ministerial candidate, because in Kerala too, the Congress will look for such a face, who will obey everything the high command says without question.
