New Delhi: Former Union Minister P Chidambaram has expressed confidence in Congress winning the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana and forming the government in Jammu and Kashmir alongside its ally, the National Conference. Chidambaram emphasized that the Congress party's long-standing policies and ideology will ultimately resonate with the people.
"We are confident that the Congress party's long-established policies and approach will be accepted by the people. While another ideology may seem to prevail for a short time, in the long run, Congress' values and policies will prove to be more acceptable," Chidambaram said during a media interaction. He further expressed hope that the election results in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir, scheduled for October 8, will reflect this sentiment.
Chidambaram also conveyed his condolences for the tragic deaths of five people due to "excess heat and other medical conditions" during the Indian Air Force air show in Chennai. "It is unfortunate and sad. Fifteen lakh people attended the air force exercise... I hope the state government will be generous and offer compensation to the affected families," he said.
Exit polls predict a clear victory for Congress in Haryana, while the National Conference-Congress alliance is expected to lead in Jammu and Kashmir.
