Congress' big crackdown on Sunil Jakhar and KV Thomas, party removes from all posts

Amritsar: In a major crackdown on Sunil Jakhar, who was the president of the Panjab Congress, he has been removed from all party posts. On the recommendation of the disciplinary committee, party's interim president Sonia Gandhi has taken action against former Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar. Apart from Jakhar, senior Kerala leader and former Union Minister KV Thomas has also been removed from all posts. He was asked by the Congress high command to stay away from seminars organised by the CPM, but he attended it.

His decision was considered as anti-party activity. With this, Sunil Jakhar had said before the Punjab elections that he was not made the chief minister because he is a Hindu. He also made statements against the then Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. This was objected to by many leaders and demanded the high command to take action against them. On Tuesday evening, the Congress high command had ordered the removal of Sunil Jakhar and K V Thomas from all party posts.

However, Sunil Jakhar's reaction to this has come out and he says that I was not in any position in the party. It is being said that the disciplinary committee had recommended to throw him out of the party for two years, but Sonia Gandhi herself was against it. He said that it is not right to take such strict action against old leaders.
