Congress Strategy Group Meets for UCC Panel Discussion

New Delhi:  A meeting Congress Parliamentary Strategy panel will hold a meeting today, July 1, ahead of a discussion by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

The meeting, to be held at the illustrious residence of former AICC chief Sonia Gandhi at 10, Janpath in New Delhi, aims to deliberate on the optimal stance to adopt during the forthcoming discussion on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

Adding to the significance of the event, the esteemed Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice has scheduled a meeting on the UCC for July 3. This gathering presents a unique opportunity for stakeholders to express their viewpoints on this contentious matter.

A noteworthy announcement was made by Sushil Modi, the BJP Rajya Sabha MP and leader of the committee, who promptly informed all 31 MPs and committee members that their invaluable perspectives on the UCC would be sought and diligently considered at this momentous gathering.

In a formal release pertaining to the committee's agenda, it was reiterated that the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice will convene at 03.00 PM on Monday, July 3, 2023.

It is worth mentioning that the Indian Constitution, specifically Part 4, Article 44, incorporates the Directive Principles of State Policy, mandating the provision of a uniform civil code (UCC) for all citizens across India's vast territory. Notably, the BJP's 2019 Lok Sabha election manifesto pledged to implement the UCC should they assume power, further underscoring the significance of this issue.
