Bangalore: The college administration has allowed Muslim girls to sit in a separate room after the issue of wearing a hijab to sit in a class at Government PU College, Kundapura in Karnataka's Udupi district, came to light. However, she will get admission in the class only if she takes off her hijab and attends the class in uniform as per the rules of the college. According to media reports, while coming out of the college campus wearing a hijab for lunch, a student said, 'We will not remove our hijab till the order of the High Court. The administration will not allow us to sit in the class wearing hijab, so we will sit outside in the hall. Our classes are not going on, so we are just sitting here.'

At the same time, another college student says, 'The principal and faculty of the college met us and asked if we want to remove the hijab and go to class. They also took our attendance. Meanwhile, Karnataka Education Minister BC Nagesh said on the hijab controversy, "Any student who is not willing to follow the uniform dress code, is free to explore any other option." The education minister of the state further told the press that as the rules are followed in the army, it should be done in educational institutions as well.

He also clarified that girl students can come to school wearing hijab, but they will have to carry it in their bags inside the school or college premises.
