Arunachal Pradesh: Changes in timing of municipal and panchayat elections

In the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, the Election Commission has decided to temporarily stop the municipal and panchayat elections. Officials gave this information on this decision taken in view of Coronavirus. The Commission announced that elections will be held in April-May this year, although the date has not been fixed for it yet.

Regarding the matter, Election Commissioner Hage Kojin said, "If elections are held then more people will gather, campaigns will be held and rallies will start across the state." He said, "Due to Coronavirus, the decision to hold elections now will be harmful for people's health." The state government issued a notification on 16 March, prohibiting the gathering or gathering of people till 5 April.

This decision was taken on Friday in response to the petition of the state government. Let it be said that for this, it was also requested by various political parties that the date of the election should be fixed in view of the current situation. Kogin said that the state health department and various political parties had already urged the electoral panel to consider extending the election date. Schools and educational institutions, cinema halls, night clubs and weekly markets in the state will remain closed till 5 April amid fears about the Coronavirus. Along with appealed people to avoid going to some kind of ceremony or group.
