NEW DELHI: The global resurgence of COVID-19 has brought attention to India as the country grapples with an increase in cases. In response to the emergence of the JN.1 sub-variant and a subsequent rise in infections, India's Health Ministry has initiated a series of preventive actions. Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya chaired a significant meeting on Wednesday morning to address the escalating respiratory illnesses. Representatives from all states and Union territories were brought together to assess the readiness of healthcare facilities in hospitals. The primary focus of this gathering was to tackle the recent surge in respiratory ailments, encompassing influenza-like illness and Severe Acute Respiratory Diseases, with specific emphasis on combating COVID-19. As of December 20, India has recorded 341 new active COVID-19 cases, prompting several states to issue advisories urging citizens to adhere to precautionary measures such as wearing masks due to the escalating case numbers. Symptoms of the JN.1 variant of COVID-19 remain unknown, as stated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). However, reports indicate that the symptoms of COVID-19 typically manifest similarly across all variants. It's worth noting that the severity of symptoms is often influenced by an individual's immunity and overall health rather than the specific variant causing the infection. The Health Ministry's proactive approach underscores the nation's commitment to preemptively address the growing challenges posed by the pandemic.
