Covid Updates: India reports 2,961 new cases in last 24-hrs

New Delhi: As per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday, India reported 2,961 new cases of Covid-19 in 24-hours, witnessing a fall from Friday's tally of 3,611 cases.

The Ministry reports that 30,041 cases are now active in the country.

India recorded 6,135 recoveries the previous day, bringing the tally to 4,44,05,550. At the moment, the recovery rate is 98.75%. The weekly positivity rate was 2.63 percent, while the daily positivity rate was 2.12 percent.

The Ministry reports that 1,198 doses of the COVID vaccination were given throughout the course of the previous day. Under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive programme, a total of 220.66 crores of vaccine doses were administered. In the previous 24 hours, as many as 1,39, 814 COVID tests were performed.

Dr. PK Mishra, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, presided over a high-level meeting earlier on April 20 to overviews the situation following the rise of COVID-19 cases across the nation.

Rajesh Bhushan, the Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, gave a thorough presentation during the conference outlining the state of the COVID-19 worldwide.

The presentation included information on the fraction of circulating variations in India as well as a summary of the genome sequencing of various variants since January 2023.

In the meantime, the Covid-19 pandemic has been declared to be a worldwide health emergency over by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Dr.Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of World Health Organisation, made the announcement while addressing a press briefing on Covid-19 and global health issues.
