Cow Smugglers Shoot Cow Protector in Haryana's Nuh District

Chandigarh: In the early hours of Saturday, a disturbing incident unfolded near Mahu-Chopta village of Ferozepur Jhirka in the Muslim-dominated Nuh district of Haryana. Cow smugglers allegedly shot a cow protector, identified as Sonu Sarpanch from Rewari district. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Faridabad and later referred to Medanta Medicity in Gurugram, where he remains in critical condition.

The incident occurred on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway when cow protectors were pursuing the smugglers' vehicle. The victim's condition has sparked outrage, with people demonstrating outside the hospital. Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarnia confirmed that an FIR will be lodged, and investigations are underway.

According to Gau Rakshak Chaman Khatana, the incident transpired around 4:45 am when cow protectors received intelligence regarding cattle smuggling from Rajasthan. A team of seven pursued the smugglers' pickup jeep, resulting in an altercation where the smugglers opened fire. Sonu Sarpanch sustained a direct gunshot to the stomach during the confrontation, leaving him severely wounded.

This incident sheds light on the ongoing challenges with cow smuggling in Haryana's Nuh district, where such incidents have occurred previously. Bajrang Dal member and cow protector's lawyer Kulbhushan Bhardwaj emphasized the need for licensed weapons for cow protectors, considering the rising cases of cow smuggling. Initial investigations suggest the involvement of suspects from Rajasthan in this incident.
