The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) has approved a resolution designating Rahul Gandhi as the party's national president, Congress leaders said. The resolution was passed in a meeting of 310 PCC delegates, who will vote in party's presidential election, from Chhattisgarh chaired by Hussain Dalwai, state Congress communication wing head Sushil Anand Shukla mentioned. Rahul Gandhi should be elected as the party's president, according to an identical resolution that the CPCC voted in June of this year. According to Congress leaders, the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) on Sunday approved a resolution designating Rahul Gandhi as the party's national president. According to the head of the state's Congress communication arm, Sushil Anand Shukla, the motion was approved during a meeting of 310 Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) delegates from Chhattisgarh who will vote in the party's presidential election. The meeting was presided over by Hussain Dalwai. It was in June this year that the CPCC had passed a similar resolution that Rahul Gandhi should become the party president. The Congress said last month that the date for its presidential election will be October 17. On October 19, the results will be made public. The name of the president will be announced on October 8 itself, said the the party, if there is only one candidate still in the running following the withdrawal of nominations. The Congress last witnessed a contest for the post in November 2000. Dalwai has been appointed by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to serve as the Chhattisgarh unit's election officer. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Congress president Mohan Markam, AICC general secretary P L Punia, and state ministers were among the chief participants in the meeting held at Rajiv Bhawan, the ruling party's state office. CM Baghel told reporters that he had proposed the resolution designating Rahul Gandhi as the party's president and that it had had the support of PCC Chairman Mohan Markam, State Assembly Speaker Charan Das Mahant, and Ministers TS Singh Deo, Shivkumar Dahariya, and Premsai Singh Tekam. In response to a question, Baghel stated, "The Rajasthan Congress unit of the party has also passed the resolution (to make Rahul Gandhi president) today." "As the party's presidential election draws closer, Rahul ji should reconsider if similar resolutions are adopted in other states. I believe Rahul ji will agree (to become party head), keeping in mind the emotions of all party member " he said. Baghel added that he and others also supported a different resolution put out by the PCC leader, which gave the Congress president the power to choose the party's state chairperson and other office holders.
