Former Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) failed to make it to the playoffs for the first time in the IPL's history. Captain MS Dhoni struggled to find his rhythm with the bat throughout the season. Dhoni's poor performance played a huge role in CSK's decline along with the consistent failure of the batting in veteran Suresh Raina's absence. Former India cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra feels CSK should not retain Dhoni if a mega auction takes place ahead of the new season. In a video posted on his Facebook account, he wrote "I think CSK should release MS Dhoni going into the mega auction, if there is a mega auction then you will be with that player for three years. But will Dhoni stay with you for three years? I am not saying don't keep Dhoni, he will play the next IPL, but if you keep him as a retained player but you will have to pay Rs 15 crore."Retaining Captain cool would mean CSK will have to shell out a whopping Rs 15 crore for their captain which will be a huge amount spent on a player who might not play beyond next year, therefore, Chopra thus wants CSK to use the Right To Match option for Dhoni after releasing him and use the money wisely. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming also admitted that the current team might run out of gas with several players on the wrong side of their 30s. CSK will be hoping for a mega auction to take place ahead of the next season which will give them an opportunity to rebuild their core.
