SAN FRANCISCO: The News Corp., which was founded by Rupert Murdoch, has confirmed that the Wall Street Journal, New York Post, and Dow Jones were all targeted by a "foreign government" and that some material was stolen. The cyber-attack occurred in January, according to News Corp's filings with the US Securities Exchange Commission (SEC). News Corp owns the Wall Street Journal, New York Post, and Dow Jones, among other publications. "The Company is conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the activity, together with an outside cybersecurity firm, to assess its nature, scale, duration, and repercussions," News Corp said. "Preliminary examination by the Company shows that foreign government involvement may be linked to this activity, and that data was collected," it continued. The Wall Street Journal and the New York Times were both hacked in 2013 by intruders claiming to be from China. Employees at the Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones, the New York Post, the company's UK news outlet, and News Corp headquarters received a letter regarding the attack, according to ZDNet late Friday.
