CHENNAI: The Southern Central Railway (SCR) has called off train services from December 4 to 8, 2023, due to Cyclone Michaung's impact. This severe cyclonic storm has caused heavy rainfall across Andhra Pradesh, intensifying its effects on various regions. SCR's announcement confirms the cancellation of more than 100 trains, affecting routes spanning Tamil Nadu, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Howrah, Lucknow, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Puducherry, and others.
Additionally, the Indian Railways has canceled 17 long-distance trains within the East Central Railway jurisdiction, including services such as the Gaya-Chennai Express, Dhanbad-Alleppey Express, Ernakulam-Patna Express, Danapur-SMVB Bengaluru special, Danapur-Bengaluru special, Danapur-Bengaluru Sanghmitra Express, and Muzaffarpur-SMVB Bengaluru Express.
Cyclone Michaung, named by Myanmar, signifies resilience and fortitude. This cyclone marks the sixth in the Indian Ocean this year and the fourth to originate in the Bay of Bengal.
