Like other pujas, devotees get up early, bathe in sacred water bodies, and fast for the day.
Typical flowers, incense sticks, lamps, and sweets are offered during the puja ceremony. One should sing devotional songs and read devotional books like Avadhoot Geeta and Jeevanmukta Geeta.
During the puja, sandalwood paste, vermilion, and turmeric should be applied to the idol or picture of the deity.
It is also important that after the puja starts, devotees should take seven circles around the idol of Lord Dutt and distribute prasadam to all in the puja.
