Defense Minister Rajnath Singh to embark on 3-day visit to Vietnam

NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will head to Vietnam on June 8 for a three-day visit to hand over twelve high-speed guard boats built under India's USD100 million Defense Line of Credit.

Rajnath Singh will conduct bilateral meetings with his Vietnamese counterpart Phan Van Giang during his visit in order to improve defence cooperation between the two countries. The Defence Minister will also pay a visit to Vietnam's training schools in Nha Trang, including the Telecommunication University, where an Army Software Park is being constructed thanks to a USD 5 million donation from the Indian government.

According to the ministry, Singh will preside over a ceremony at the Hong Ha yard in Hai Phong to hand over 12 high-speed boats to Vietnam, which were built by L&T under India's USD 100 million defence line of credit to the Southeast Asian country.

"This initiative is noteworthy in the context of rising defence industrial cooperation with Vietnam," it noted, "and represents Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' and 'Make in India, Make for the World." Singh's tour would begin with a visit to President Ho Chi Minh's mausoleum in Hanoi.
