Kejriwal government tightens on pollution, impose fine of Rs. 20 lakh on PWD department

New Delhi: Pollution is a big issue in the country's capital Delhi during winter. The Delhi government has taken several important decisions to control this in recent times. Not only this, the Kejriwal government of Delhi is also showing great vigour regarding pollution. Environment Minister Gopal Rai has imposed a fine of Rs 20 lakh on the PWD department of its own government for polluting and violating environmental regulations during the construction of a drain in Burari area of North Delhi.

Just a day earlier, Gopal Rai had issued instructions to the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to impose a fine of Rs 20 lakh against MCD and take strict action legally. Due to trucks carrying garbage at the landfill site, there was a gust of dust everywhere. When the Environment Minister Gopal Rai asked the officials of the corporation regarding the sprinkling of water, the corporation officials appeared to be giving evasive answers.

On not getting any satisfactory reply, the Environment Minister was agitated and summoned the officers of the corporation and lashed out. Environment Minister Gopal Rai directed the officials to ensure more water spraying to suppress the dust and also asked the reason for not taking steps to deal with dust pollution.
