New Delhi: The Delhi government has greenlit the construction of a new district court complex in Rouse Avenue, with an estimated cost of Rs 427 crore. The project received approval during a meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee.
In a press release from the Office of the Finance Minister of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, it was announced that this initiative is a significant step towards enhancing the judicial infrastructure in the capital. "The Kejriwal government is committed to improving the judicial system in Delhi. As part of this commitment, we are moving forward with the construction of a new district court complex on Rouse Avenue," said Finance Minister Atishi.
Atishi emphasized the importance of speedy and accessible justice as a fundamental right for all citizens, stating that adequate infrastructure in courts is essential to achieving this. She highlighted the current burden of pending cases on judges and courts across the country, which often leads to delays in case resolution. "Providing sufficient judicial infrastructure in the capital is a priority for the Kejriwal government," she added.
The new District Court Complex at Rouse Avenue will feature 55 courtrooms, which Atishi believes will play a crucial role in strengthening Delhi's judicial system. She remarked, "This project is vital for expanding Delhi's judicial infrastructure and will significantly aid in the swift disposal of cases once completed. The project also aims to improve public facilities, ensuring convenience for judges, lawyers, and citizens alike."
According to the press release, the new court complex will be equipped with modern amenities, including a library, basement parking, conference rooms, and judicial offices. Atishi has instructed the relevant departments to establish a detailed timeline for the project and work towards its rapid completion.
