New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday gave a major verdict on the surname of children saying that no father can force his children to have the same surnames. Every child has the right to use his mother's surname. The Delhi high court's remarks came during the hearing of a petition where a man had urged the court to direct the authorities to use the father's name instead of the mother in the daughter's surname in the daughter's documents. While hearing the petition, Justice Rekha Palli told the father what is the problem if the minor girl is happy with her mother's surname. She said that if the child wants to use his mother's surname, she has this right. Justice Rekha said no father has the right to order only his name to be used in the surname. Expressing grief over this petition, the court said that it is very unfortunate that the parties are suing on such an issue. She asked the parents how do you think both of you will fight and decide on the future of the daughter.
