New Delhi: The Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet regarding the violence at the Red Fort on the occasion of Republic Day. According to the Delhi Police chargesheet, on January 26, the crowd at the Red Fort not only tried to capture the historic monument and hoist the Nishan Sahib and 'Kisan' flag, but also wanted to make it a new protest point for the movement against new agricultural laws. The data on purchase of tractors in Haryana and Punjab during 2020 compared to 2019 has been mentioned citing conspiracy to commit violence. It is said that when the agitation peaked in December 2020, 95 per cent of tractors were procured more than last year. According to media reports, the 3,232-page chargesheet elaborates on how the red fort was plotted for violence. The chargesheet filed by Delhi Police on May 22 said the violence was a major conspiracy hatched under the guise of opposition to agricultural laws. The main intention of the unruly crowd entering Delhi was to make the Red Fort a new protest point. Around 500 policemen were injured in the Republic Day violence. According to the chargesheet, the arrested accused had deliberately chosen a day like January 26 for it. Their aim were to embarrass the country nationally and internationally by unfurling the flag of Nishan Sahib at the Red Fort. Police claimed that their investigation revealed that the tractors were purchased with the intention of a planned conspiracy. They were specially purchased to take them to the Tractor Parade in Delhi. Iqbal Singh, an accused, had said during interrogation that the Sikh for Justice Group had promised a cash reward of Rs 50 lakh for him if he succeeded in unfurling the Nishan Sahib on the ramparts of the Red Fort.
