Delhi Police Seizes ₹10 Crore Cocaine in Connection with Major Drug Bust

New Delhi: The Delhi Police team investigating a massive ₹5,000-crore drug haul has seized cocaine worth ₹10 crore from Amritsar, Punjab, following a raid, officials reported on Sunday. This operation was based on information provided by Jitendra Pal Singh, a UK resident who was arrested in Amritsar on October 4 in connection with the ongoing Delhi drug investigation.

During the raid conducted in a village near Amritsar, close to the Nepal border, authorities also confiscated a Toyota Fortuner car. This development comes in the wake of one of the largest drug busts in Delhi’s history, where on October 2, police seized over 560 kilograms of cocaine and 40 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana, valued at around ₹5,620 crore, from Mahipalpur in South Delhi.

Officials believe that the marijuana, suspected to have originated from Phuket, Thailand, was transported to India via air routes, while the cocaine is thought to have been sourced from various West Asian countries and Indian states. It has been revealed that the accused predominantly used cryptocurrency for drug transactions, which were later sold in various markets.

Five individuals—Tushar Goyal (40), Jitendra Pal Singh, alias Jassi (40), Himanshu Kumar (27), Aurangzeb Siddiqui (23), and Bharat Kumar Jain (48)—have been arrested in connection with the case, with Goyal identified as the mastermind. Investigations indicate that the gang was planning to distribute large quantities of drugs at concerts, rave parties, and in upscale localities of Delhi and other metropolitan areas. Goyal reportedly has international connections, raising concerns about the extent of the drug network.

Goyal’s association with the Congress party has sparked significant political controversy, with BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, criticizing the opposition. Goyal’s purported Facebook profile features a picture of a tiger and describes him as the "Chairman of Delhi Pradesh RTI Cell of DYPC, Indian Youth Congress." However, the Indian Youth Congress has clarified that he was expelled from the organization in October 2022 for engaging in anti-party activities.

In a statement on Saturday, PM Modi targeted the Congress party, suggesting that it aims to lead the youth of the country toward drug use to finance electoral campaigns. Amit Shah further accused Congress of transforming North India into a hotspot for the illegal drug trade during its rule before 2014.
