Delhi-Shimla Highway Ravaged by Landslide, Massive Boulders Scatter Roadway

NEW DELHI: In a devastating turn of events, the Delhi-Shimla Highway was struck by a colossal landslide, causing severe disruptions in traffic flow. A circulating video captures the harrowing sight of immense shooting stones and boulders tumbling down from the mountains onto the road. As a consequence of this rockfall, one side of the highway became completely obstructed.

To mitigate the situation, traffic has been redirected to an alternate route due to the presence of four lanes. Heavy machinery and bulldozers have been urgently mobilized to undertake the daunting task of clearing the debris and stones from the affected area.

A video footage has emerged, exhibiting the sight of colossal stones cascading down the mountains along the Kalka-Shimla National Highway-5 in Solan, Himachal Pradesh. This incident occurred while numerous vehicles were traversing the highway. Remarkably, three individuals narrowly escaped harm's way.

The weather office has issued predictions of widespread rain and thunderstorms in Himachal Pradesh today, exacerbating the prevailing conditions. In a separate incident, boulders falling from the hill have led to the road being blocked near Chhinka on the Badrinath National Highway.

 

Just last week, the Chandigarh-Manali Highway remained inaccessible for nearly 24 hours due to landslides and flash floods. This unfortunate event left countless commuters, including tourists, stranded in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, as the highway remained obstructed for an extended period.

The 70-kilometer stretch of the highway spanning Mandi-Pandoh-Kullu faced a blockade near Aut, approximately 40 kilometers from Mandi town, following a deluge. Furthermore, the Mandi-Pandoh stretch encountered an additional obstacle after a landslide occurred near 6 Miles.
