Demonetization hits Indo-Pak exchange as cash runs dry

There was no import of products from Pakistan on Thursday, the second back to back day after the suspension of work by porters at the Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Attari, as a dominant part of Indian merchants had requested that Pakistani traders solidify the development of trucks until trade streams standardize out India.

As indicated by sources, not even a solitary truckload of merchandise touched base from Pakistan at the ICP on Thursday since the specialist co-ops designated by the Center Warehousing Corporation (CWC) have for all intents and purposes no money to pay the doormen for the stacking and emptying of products.

The porters went on an uncertain strike on Wednesday requesting their wages in real money.

"We had paid wages to those watchmen who have imparted their bank points of interest to us. Be that as it may, out of almost 1,433 doormen, just a couple have shared their records, while whatever remains of them need to be paid in real money," said sources at the ICP.

Shubert Singh, a previous president of the porter's  union at Attari, said, "All porters are not keen on getting paid with the check. They need their wages in real money."

He charged that there were some doorman pioneers who didn't need all watchmen to have their financial balances and were abusing the circumstance. "All the 1,433 porters ought to have financial balances and the wages will specifically be moved into their records," he said.
