Dengue kills 1, another dies of leptospirosis in 5 days

Mumbai: The unstoppable rain spell over the city has taken two lives in the past five days. The health report released by the civic authorities stated on Monday.   

A 24-year-old Kurla woman died due to a brain infection along with leptospirosis(A term for bacterial infection spreads through flood waters contaminated with the urine of an infected dog or rat) on September 29 whereas a 27-year-old Ghatkopar male succumbed to brain-related problem arising out of a dengue infection on October 1.   

The Kurla woman, who lived in the Raghunath chawl of Naupada area, had given a history of wading throughout stagnant water.

With these deaths occurring in BMC-run KEM Hospital in Parel, the BMC has confirmed that dengue has claimed 4 lives and 8 lives have been taken by leptospirosis so far.  

September witnessed majority of malaria cases from Dongri, Andheri, Juhu, Dahisar,Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Nariman Point, , Deonar, Govandi, Mankhurd, Chembur and Tilaknagar.

According to the report of BMC, last month some of these areas also witnessed high cases of dengue. More than 12,322 people got themselves admitted to hospitals due to fever in the month of September.
