Devotees Across India Perform Pind Daan on Pitru Paksha Amavasya

On the auspicious occasion of Pitru Paksha Amavasya, devotees gathered in Haridwar's Ganga Ghat to perform the traditional Pitru Tarpan and Pind Daan rituals for their ancestors. Similar rituals were observed in Ayodhya's Sarayu River and Howrah's Ganga Ghat, as people offered prayers and sought blessings for their forefathers.

"We followed all the necessary rituals and felt a sense of peace. We also witnessed the Ganga Aarti today. We have come from Chandigarh," shared one of the devotees at Haridwar.

Another devotee, who had come with her family, said, "Today is Pitra Paksha Amavasya. We bathed and offered Pind. I’m here with my mother-in-law and husband, and we feel blessed to have worshipped here despite the large crowd."

Bhavna, a devotee in Ayodhya, expressed her devotion by saying that everyone present was offering Pind to their ancestors and taking their blessings.

A devotee from Surat, Bhagwan Prasad Sharma, visited the Sarayu River to perform Pind Daan rituals and said, "Today is Amavasya. We offered Pind to our ancestors for their ‘mukti’. Sarayu is a holy river, and it’s an honor to take a dip here."

Every year, on the last day of Pitru Paksha, known as Sarva Pitru Amavasya, devotees across India take holy dips in sacred rivers and perform Pind Daan. According to Hindu beliefs, Pind Daan provides solace to the souls of the deceased, allowing them to find peace and transition to the spiritual realm.

Pitru Paksha is a 16-day period in the Hindu lunar calendar, observed before Mahalaya. It marks a time when Hindus pay tribute to their ancestors, believing that performing Pind Daan during this time helps their ancestors attain salvation and guides them to heaven.
