Chennai: Eminent  Indian Agricultural Pioneer, Dr. Mankombu Sambasivan Swaminathan, Revered as the Father of Agronomy, Passes Away in Chennai

Dr. Mankombu Sambasivan Swaminathan, a venerable figure in the realm of agriculture, breathed his last on Thursday at the age of 98 in Chennai, where he succumbed at 11:20 a.m.

Born on August 7, 1925, in the town of Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, Dr. Swaminathan was a luminary whose indelible contributions to the field of agriculture and food security had garnered him a plethora of accolades and distinctions. Among these honors were the prestigious Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan.

His academic journey in the pursuit of agricultural knowledge saw him earn both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in agriculture from the University of Madras and the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in New Delhi, respectively. Subsequently, he embarked on a doctoral odyssey at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom (UK).

Dr. Swaminathan's enduring legacy will forever serve as an inspiration to generations of agricultural enthusiasts, marking him as a true luminary in the annals of India's agricultural history.
