Diwali, Chhath Puja 2024: Indian Railways Runs 200 More Special Trains, Check List Here

As Diwali festivities picking up momentum with Dhanteras-today, Indian Railways has announced over 200 special trains to manage the surge in travel demand for Diwali and Chhath Puja. Starting from October 29, these trains will help connect key junctions across major states, including the Anand Vihar terminal in Delhi, Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, and Pune junction, among others. In addition to these, around 20 "Festival Special Trains" are set to begin operations today, the Railways Board said.

These special trains, which will run alongside the regular schedule, are equipped with extra coaches to accommodate the increased passenger rush during this festive period.

Platform Tickets Restricted Until November 8 To control crowds during the festive season, Western Railway has suspended platform ticket sales at major stations in the Mumbai Division until November 8, 2024. These stations include Mumbai Central, Dadar, Bandra Terminus, Borivali, Vasai Road, Vapi, Valsad, Udhna, and Surat. Western Railways is currently operating around 200 trains for the festive season, with 40 managed by the Mumbai Division. Among these, 22 trains are designated for routes leading to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Odisha.

Eastern Railway Increases Services In addition, Eastern Railway has boosted its operations to meet festive demand, increasing from 33 to 50 special trains. This includes around 400 additional services during the Diwali and Chhath Puja season, according to Eastern Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer.
