On 28 and 29 February 2024, the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) conducted two successful flight tests of the Very Short Range Air Defense System (VSHORADS) missile from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, Odisha. These tests were conducted from a light and portable launcher operated from the ground. Purpose of testing: Destroying high-speed unmanned aerial targets in various interception scenarios. Test Results: In both tests, the missiles successfully intercepted and destroyed the targets, meeting all mission objectives. VSHORADS Missile: It is a Man-Portable Air Defense System (MANPAD) developed indigenously in collaboration with various laboratories of the Defense Research and Development Organization and Indian industry partners. The missile utilizes several innovative technologies including short reaction control system (RCS) and integrated avionics. It is powered by dual thrust solid motor. Its purpose is to neutralize aerial threats flying over limited distances and at low altitudes. The missile and launcher are designed to be easily transported and operated. He said that this new missile system equipped with modern technologies will make our armed forces more technically strong.
