India saw a rise in the smuggling of drugs in large quantities through Pakistan. The Gujarat ATS on Sunday said that drugs worth around Rs 2,170 crore have been seized in the last three years. At the same time, 73 Pakistani nationals have also been detained for trying to smuggle. The ATS claimed that Pakistani smugglers made several attempts to use the Gujarat coast for smuggling of drugs, but all such attempts were foiled. Drugs worth Rs 1,466.18 crores seized in 2021: A release issued by the Gujarat ATS said, drugs worth Rs 1,466.18 crore were seized in 2021 alone, while medicines worth Rs 704.04 crore were seized in the last two years. The figure does not include the seizure of drugs worth Rs 21,000 crore from Mundra port in Kutch district in September last year. The national investigation agency (NIA) is now pursuing that case.
