Eyes can detect early signs of dementia

Eyes are not only used for seeing, but they can also tell a lot about our health. Recent research has revealed that the early symptoms of a serious disease like dementia can be seen in the eyes. Eye problems can indicate future diseases. Therefore, doctors first examine the eyes to diagnose any disease, because many times the early symptoms of the disease are first seen in the eyes.

Research reveals

Recently, an important research was conducted in Norfolk, England, which included 8,623 healthy people. In this research, these people were kept under observation for several years. By the end of the research, 537 participants had developed dementia. This study tried to find out what factors can be seen before the development of dementia.

The study found that participants with dementia showed their eyesight was slower in their screening, while those without dementia were able to see well. This suggests that vision loss and eye problems may begin before dementia develops.

Early signs of dementia and Alzheimer's

Early symptoms of Alzheimer's, a major type of dementia, can also be seen in the eyes. People with Alzheimer's may have trouble ignoring distracting stimuli. This can lead to problems controlling eye movements. When dementia makes it difficult to avoid distracting stimuli, it can also increase the risk of driving accidents.

Difficulty recognizing faces

According to research, people suffering from dementia have difficulty recognizing the faces of new people. When they talk to a new person, they may have trouble choosing the right words. This also creates problems in conversation. In contrast, a healthy person has no problem recognizing someone once.

Symptoms of dementia patients

People suffering from dementia may often appear confused. They do not consciously move their eyes to see the environment around them, including the faces of new people. This leads to a decrease in their eye movements, which can be a sign of dementia. Based on this research, it can be said that eye problems can be an early symptom of dementia. Therefore, it is important to get regular eye checkups and take any changes seriously.
